ay Godfrey was a student at the Ross Medical Education Center in Brighton nearly five years ago. While there, she completed the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program. During that time, she was a single mother taking care of her two small sons. With the challenge of parenting, it can be difficult to at the same time stay focused and complete such an intense, fast-paced program. However, Lindsay was not only able to stay focused, but she also excelled in the program, demonstrating outstanding attendance and academic achievement. Barb Westrick, Medical Assistant and Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program chair, said of Lindsay, “I remember her telling me how her boys would use her medical terminology flashcards and play games with her, and this helped her learn her terms. She found a way not only to fit studying into her busy schedule but also to include her sons in such a fun way.”
Not only was she determined to improve her own life and the lives of her boys, but Lindsay also proved herself to be a role model for her peers while in the program and at her externship. Her externship site was also impressed by her dedication and hard work. Consequently, at the end of her externship, she was very quickly hired. Lindsay still works there today. She has progressed in her career and holds a management position, and she recently took over the facility’s billing and coding responsibilities. Even though Lindsay graduated years ago, she continues to be a role model at Ross. She has participated in a marketing presentation for prospective students and also an orientation video that is currently being developed for Ross programs.
Lindsay was nominated for the MACCS Outstanding Student Award for her determination and dedication to her career and the career of her future colleagues by Barb Westrick, Medical Assistant and Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program chair.
