Am I Ready for Medical Assisting School?

Am I Ready for Medical Assisting School at Ross Medical Education CenterHave you been considering changing careers or even starting your first career as a medical assistant? Many people have dreamed of entering the healthcare field, but they just aren’t sure that they are ready to make the jump. The thought of going to work every day to help your patients and be part of a team that is making a real difference in people’s lives is enough to inspire anyone.

Completing medical assistant training from an institutionally accredited institution may very well be the next step in achieving your goals. However, deciding to embark upon your journey to become a medical assistant is a big decision. We came up with a few questions to ask yourself that may help you to determine if you are ready.

1. Are you passionate about helping people live happier, healthier, more comfortable lives?

This may be obvious, but if you don’t like working with and helping people, then a career as a medical assistant is probably not for you. After successfully completing your training program, you will likely want to become a Registered Medical Assistant and pursue a position as a medical assistant. Medical assistants are employed in a variety of facilities like:

  • doctors’ offices
  • hospitals
  • specialty clinics
  • retirement homes
  • laboratories
  • urgent care facilities

No matter where you end up working, you will be working with people each day, and often as the first person that each patient comes into contact with. If helping people is your passion, medical assisting may very well be the career path for you!

2. Are you willing to put in the time and effort it takes to be successful?

Making the decision to make a change and pursue education is the easy part. Now you really get a chance to show what you’re made of. Obviously being committed to be in class every day, on time and ready to learn is necessary. However, even that is pretty simple.

Once you’re in class, the hard part starts. Balancing family and personal time with class time and the demands from your classes like homework, tests, and practice time can be difficult. It’s important to stay focused on the passion that inspired you to pursue your education and on the fact that soon you will have the opportunity to put all your hard work into practice in the field!
