This holiday season the Ross Medical Education Center campus in New Baltimore, Michigan partnered with Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team for a giving tree event. They worked hard for several weeks to collect items to donate to the homeless. As a campus, by the end of the drive they were able to donate over 100 items to donate to the cause. Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team was an exciting organization to partner with for this event.
Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team supports their community by helping members of the local homeless population find temporary shelter, food, bathing facilities, and clothing. They are headquartered in Roseville, Michigan. Their mission statement is: “To provide homeless and displaced individuals the opportunity for successful transition to independence!” They always are focused on creating a community where every person that is experiencing homelessness can find the emergency help, shelter, and resources they need. Their goal is to do whatever they can to empower homeless individuals and families to get back on their feet and reenter society as contributing members.
This winter, the Ross Admissions team spearheaded this fundraiser by going into classrooms and suggesting possible items for donations. Some of these suggested items included hats and gloves for all ages and genders. The staff members and faculty also contributed to these donations. After holding a small contest between the classes, students in the Medical Assistant program were able to come up with the most donations. Everyone on campus worked together to collect these items and it was very gratifying to be able to help keep the less fortunate warm this winter. Campus Director Jennifer Maniaci stated, “it is always fun to go shopping and when it’s for people in need it is also rewarding.”
