Ross Medical Education Center Taylor Job Fair

Ross Medical in Taylor Provides Opportunities for Students

Ross Medical Education Center Taylor Job FairThis fall, the staff and students at Ross Medical Education Center in Taylor, Michigan have been very busy! First, the Career Services team decided to host a job fair at the campus and invited current students and graduates to come and meet employers and learn more about available positions. Some of the employers that attended included Henry Ford Health Systems, St. John-Providence Hospital, The AccuMed Group, Accretive Health Inc., Pavillion Imaging, and My Family Doctor. Many graduates were also in attendance. They came prepared with their portfolios and resumes, and they were dressed for success!

During the event, graduates had the opportunity to complete applications and some also were able to follow up the application with on-the-spot interviews. The students from the evening Medical Assistant class were also able to meet with the hiring managers to ask questions about externship and hiring opportunities. Some advice the graduates and students received included the importance of attendance, reliability, and flexibility. Several interviews were held, and shortly after the event, two graduates had been offered employment opportunities and were very excited about getting started with their new careers. The Career Services team plans to host a follow-up event in the next six months. While recruiting for this event, many new networking opportunities and relationships were forged. New externship sites were established and the campus also reconnected with some previous extern sites.

Ross Medical Education Center Taylor AMT ConferenceFollowing this exciting endeavor, students and faculty from the Medical Assistant program in Taylor had the opportunity to go to the American Medical Technologist (AMT) Michigan State Society Meeting in Frankenmuth, Michigan. They attended the workshop entitled “Improving Your Phlebotomy Skills.” The session’s speaker, Marie Moorehouse, is a Training Specialist from University of Michigan. She shared tips for improving the patient experience when performing venipuncture. The students enjoyed the opportunity to attend a professional meeting. Students were also allowed to obtain a membership with AMT. This important organization strongly advocates for lifelong learning and professional growth. Student members have the opportunity to network with peers through the online student forum, along with opportunities for scholarships and awards. Ross Instructor Mrs. Dominguez stated, “this was very good instruction for students new to phlebotomy.”
