Ross Medical in Muncie Collects Food for Second Harvest Food Bank

Ross Medical Education Center Muncie Food Drive Second Harvest Food BankDuring the month of March, the Ross Medical Education Center campus in Muncie, Indiana joined the rest of the Ross campuses in hosting a food drive. During their drive, they worked hard to collect as many food items as possible. At the end, all the proceeds went to Second Harvest Food Bank. To bring a little more excitement, the students competed by class between the day and evening Medical Assistant classes, Dental Assistant class, Pharmacy Technician class, Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration class, and even the staff got in on the fun!

The winners of the food drive were motivated by the knowledge that they would receive a pizza party for their achievements. The Medical Assistant students worked really hard and pulled together for the win by being just 19 food items shy of 1000. One Medical Assistant student, Mendy Montgomery said, “I felt motivated to compete with the other classes because the director, James Abraham, told us the other classes asked to borrow his truck to bring in food items.” That motivated the Medical Assistant students to really kick the competition up a notch.

Even in the midst of the competition and fun throughout the campus, every student and staff member that participated was deeply motivated by the opportunity to help their neighbors in need. Another Medical Assistant student, Connie Murphy, shared that “it is important to donate because I feel that giving back to the community is just the right thing to do.” The Muncie food drive brought in a large variety of items including canned and boxed goods, cases of water, baby formula, and more, and over 1200 items were collected throughout the month. Representatives from Second Harvest Food Bank were very thankful for the donated items when they came out to the campus to pick them all up.
