Ross Medical in Portage Helps Out Their Four-Legged Friends in Need

Ross Medical Education Center Portage Donates to Kalamazoo Humane SocietyThe Ross Medical Education Center campus in Portage, Michigan is always up to host a collection for a great cause in their community. This time the cause was for their furry neighbors! The campus worked hard for two weeks collecting pet supplies to donate to their local Humane Society. At the end of those two weeks, they were thrilled to be able to collect and donate more than 200 toys, food items, and cleaning supplies to the Kalamazoo Humane Society, to help them care for the animals at their facility.

The Kalamazoo Humane Society supports the efforts of Kalamazoo County Animal Services & Enforcement. They also provide their animal shelter as well as various educational programs to the community. Additionally they have programs that offer help to those requiring low-cost spay and neuter services for their pets, and they maintain a variety of health care and pet-related services such as our Emergency Pet Food Bank. http://www.kazoohumane.org/history/index.php

The Kalamazoo Humane Society takes pride in helping to support animals and their owners in the community in a variety of ways, including through the Pet Food Bank, Dog House Program, and by offering affordable spay and neuter services. None of these important services would be possible without the wonderful support received from members of the community.

The campus decided to choose this charity as the beneficiary of their drive because they were inspired by a recent Dog Festival in the Portage area that was to raise awareness and collections for the Humane Society. Ross staff and students felt like they needed to contribute, even if they couldn’t attend the festival. So, they collected items on campus and three of the students from the Portage Veterinary Assistant program delivered the items to the local Humane Society. It was a surprise donation after the dog festival, so it was an added bonus to the items they had already collected. The Humane Society staff was excited and very gracious!

Lindsey Petts, an Admissions Representative from Ross, was a major driving force behind Ross’ contributions. “Collecting items to donate to our local humane society was a project a lot of us were really excited to get behind,” shared Lindsey. “Our campus has a lot of very passionate students, especially from the Veterinary Assistant program. Whether they’re inspired by their pets at home or just the kindness of their hearts, we were able to really rally for animals in need. They can’t always tell us what they need or get it for themselves, so it’s really rewarding to know we made a difference for our four-legged friends.”
