Ross Medical Education Center Taylor Fish and Loaves Food Drive March 2015

Taylor Joins Loaves and Fishes to Help Feed Community

Ross Medical Education Center Taylor Fish and Loaves Food Drive March 2015This spring, each of the Ross Medical Education Center campuses worked hard in their local communities to collect cans, boxes, and other non-perishable food items during their annual community-wide food drive. The students, staff, and faculty from the Taylor campus were no different. Throughout the month of March, campus staff and students from the Medical Assistant and Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration programs worked together to make this year’s food drive the most successful one yet!

By the end of the drive, they had filled two large boxes with a variety of delicious food items. Some of the items included soup, cereal, vegetables, fruit, spaghetti, tuna, salmon, rice, boxed potatoes, and much more. All of the items were donated to their local food pantry, Fish and Loaves. The campus has worked with them numerous times in the past and is always impressed with their efforts to support and help in their community. Assistant Campus Director of Education Pam Kowalski shared about the event, “we are pleased to have had the opportunity to donate to an organization that assists families in our local community.” Many staff members and students echoed her sentiment, enjoying the chance to make a real difference to real families. They are already planning how to make next year’s drive even more successful.

The mission of the Fish and Loaves organization is to provide a client-choice food pantry and to always “ensure that no one goes hungry.” Established in 2008, Fish and Loaves is a faith based, non-sectarian organization staffed solely by volunteers. They provide comprehensive and long-term food assistance to clients during tough times, regardless of the recipients’ religious affiliations. According to their website, since their opening, they have been able to help nearly 10,000 households and over 13,000 men, women, and children from the surrounding area, and they distribute over two million pounds of food each year.
